Thousands visit their dentist each year for services related to emergency dental in Edmonton. Read on to see why it's important to see your dentist as soon as possible if you have a dental emergency.
Have a knocked-out, cracked, or damaged tooth? Get it treated as soon as possible. There’s only a small window of time a knocked-out tooth can be re-implanted. If that’s the answer you were searching for, call your dentist and head over immediately.
Walk-ins and same-day appointments are always welcome at Millcreek Dental Care. Please note: emergency services are provided during our regular office hours:
When a tooth has been knocked out, you have less than an hour to get it reinserted into the socket. After that, the odds of a successful reattachment become less likely. After an hour, the gum tissue, blood vessels, and nerves often become irreversibly damaged. So long as it is reinserted within an hour, the odds are good that tissues will once again support the tooth.
What to do:
If you have a knocked-out tooth (avulsed tooth), come see us immediately. If you can, call ahead so we can clear the dentist's chair for your arrival.
Teeth may be tough, but they can also break, crack, and fracture when impacted with the right amount of pressure. You may not even feel pain with a cracked or fractured tooth. But, you should visit your dentist for an emergency appointment since bacteria will enter through the crack, causing infection, pain, and possibly tooth loss.
What to do:
If you play sports or grind your teeth at night, one of the best ways to protect your teeth is with a mouthguard for sleep or sport.
Most often, you won't notice loose filling until the sensitivity kicks in (and that's likely soon after it's swallowed or pops out). Crowns on the other hand, are much more obvious, but can cause the same level of sensitivity and pain. Some of the main reasons for a loose crown are impact damage and undetected tooth decay below the crown.
If you've lost a dental filling or crown, remember: it's not only extremely uncomfortable, but will likely lead to further tooth decay. So, it's important to schedule an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible. If the pain is complicating things, you can also see us for an emergency dental visit.
Whether it arises from tooth decay or trauma, it can be uncomfortable to have a loose tooth in your mouth. So long as the tooth remains in its socket and is still connected to the nerves, tissue, and blood vessels, you likely will not need a root canal to keep it healthy. But, it is important to schedule an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.
Many times, your tooth will heal on its own with the help of a tooth-stabilizing splint.
Millcreek Dental Care welcomes same-day appointments and dental emergencies. If you can, just give us a call to let us know you have a dental emergency and you're on your way. Calling ahead helps us to prioritize services and ready our staff for your arrival.
